HYDERABAD, Oct 9: Around 715 people have been booked for overcharging, and another 84 for violating Ahtram Ramazan Ordinance by revenue officers, said the DCO Hyderabad Aftab Ahmed Khatri.
On the directives of District Nazim Kanwar Naveed Jamil, revenue officials given special judicial powers, recovered Rs5,14,830 fine from the profiteering from September 14 to October 2, he said in a meeting held on Monday to review the performance at his camp office.
He called for protecting the rights of consumer and asked the officers concerned to take help from the NGOs and opinion leaders in curbing profiteering and artificial hoarding. Businessmen with a positive approach should be contacted to make Bachat Bazars more affective, he said.
The participants of the meeting were further informed that the DDO Hyderabad during surprise visits between September 14 to October 2, booked 72
shopkeepers and recovered Rs58,300 in fine for overcharging, and another 20 for violating Ahtram Ramzan Ordinance and fine of Rs7,200.
Similarly, the DDO Latifabad booked 94 shopkeepers and fined them Rs92,550 for profiteering and 12 people recovering Rs5,100 for violating Ahtram Ramzan Ordinance.
The participants were further informed that Mukhtiarkar Hyderabad City booked 74 shopkeepers for overcharging and fined them Rs56,850 and 20 for violating the Ordinance and revocered Rs6,700 fine. Mukhtiarkar Latifabad remained on top by booking 172 shopkeepers with fine recovery of Rs1,65,330 and convicted 17 people recovering Rs3,800 for violating Ordinance.
Mukhtiarkar Qasimabad challaned 49 shopkeepers for profiteering and fined Rs32,800 and seven fining Rs1,900 for violating Ordinance.
Mukhtiarkar Taluka Hyderabad Revenue convicted 47 for overcharging and recovered Rs19,200 and challaned eight persons with fine of Rs3,300 for violating the Ordinance. Mukhtiarkar Estate Hyderabad said he convicted 123 shopkeepers and fined them Rs61,800 for overcharging.
