Turkish govt’s help in quake reconstruction praised

PESHAWAR, Oct 8: NWFP Governor Lt-Gen (retd) Ali Mohammad Jan Aurakzai on Monday inaugurated the re-constructed building of the Government High School No. 4 in Abbottabad. The school’s building, damaged in the 2005 earthquake, was rebuilt by a Turkish firm.

The ceremony was part of the NWFP governor’s itinerary for his day-long visit to the earthquake-hit areas.

Terming the project a symbol of friendship between the two countries, the governor said Turkish people were among the first to arrive in the quake-hit areas.

Highlighting the strength of the bonds between the two peoples, he said that Turkish people had helped the calamity-stricken people with an open heart. He also inspected various sections of the school.

Governor Aurakzai had studied at the school and provided financial assistance from his discretionary funds for its renovation.—APP
