Rear admirals promoted

ISLAMABAD, Oct 8: The government has promoted Rear Admiral Nayyar Iqbal and Real Admiral Mahmood Ahmed Khan to the rank of vice admiral.

According to a press release issued by the director public relations (Navy) on Monday, Vice Admiral Nayyar Iqbal was commissioned in the engineering branch of Navy in June 1973.

He graduated from Karachi University in mechanical engineering in December 1974 and specialised in marine engineering from Royal Naval Engineering College, UK, in 1979.

He has also attended the Naval Biological, Chemical and Nuclear Defence School, USA. He holds a master’s degree in strategic studies and is also a graduate of National Defence University.

His career in the Navy encompasses various staff and command appointments including commanding officer PNS Karsaz, managing director Dockyard and commander logistics.

At present, he is serving as deputy chief of naval staff (materials) at the Naval Headquarters Islamabad.

Vice Admiral Iqbal is decorated with Tamgha-i-Imtiaz (military), Sitara-i-Imtiaz (military) and Hilal-i-Imtiaz (military).

Vice Admiral Mahmood Ahmed Khan was commissioned in operation branch on June 1, 1973 after which he joined the Naval Aviation.

He is a graduate of PAF Air War College and Naval War College Command Course, USA. His field appointments include command of Allouette and Sea King Squadrons, command of two destroyers, command of Patrol Craft Squadron, Commander Air, Commander Naval Aviation and Commander Logistics.

At Naval Headquarters, he served as director Naval Aviation, Assistant Chief of Naval Staff (Operations) and ACNS (Personnel). He also served as DG (operations) at Port Qasim. At present, he is serving as Commander Coast.

Vice Admiral Khan was awarded Sitara-i-Imtiaz (military) for his meritorious service.
