PESHAWAR, Oct 7: The pro-Musharraf opposition in the NWFP Assembly on Monday decided to withdraw the noconfidence motion against Chief Minister Akram Khan Durrani.

“Now, there is no need of a no-confidence move against the chief minister. He has already lost majority in the provincial assembly after resignations of 35 MPAs belonging to the All Parties Democratic Movement,” PML-Q NWFP president and federal Minister for Political Affairs Amir Muqam said.

He said the no-confidence motion had been moved to save the provincial assembly from dissolution and enable President Gen Pervez Musharraf to get votes in the presidential polls on Oct 6.

The PML-Q had submitted the no-confidence move against the MMA-led government on October 1, after the APDM’s decision to tender resignations.

“Our purpose has been well served after the re-election of the president. We don’t have any interest in the removal of the chief minister at the moment,” he said. He refused to respond to a question that the PML had struck a deal with the NWFP government and didn’t want to topple it.
