Mortar shell defused

By Our Correspondent

SIALKOT, Oct 7: The Sialkot Bomb Disposal Squad defused a heavy mortar shell in bordering village Chatraana along the working boundary near Shakargarh on Saturday, some 75 kilometres away from here.

Sources said some farmers found the rusting but alive mortar shell while ploughing their fields. It is believed that it might have been used in the 1971 war between Indian and Pakistan.

The bomb disposal squad was called in from Sialkot which defused it later saving the area from encountering a disaster.

Meanwhile, law-enforcement agencies launched a search operation in bordering villages on Sunday to find any such device. They combed out the area but found nothing.
