KARACHI: Muttahida accused of promoting fascism

By Our Staff Reporter

KARACHI, Oct 7: The Muttahida Majlis-i-Amal has said the members of parliament belonging to the Jamaat-i-Islami by resigning from their seats have proved that they put their words into practice.

In a statement issued here on Sunday, former MMA MNAs Mohammad Hussain Mehnati and Laiq Khan said their words and practice did not contradict. They said the alliance did not believe in extending threats and political blackmailing like the Muttahida Qaumi Movement, which had earlier given a 24-hour ultimatum to the government and withdrew the same within six hours when its demands were met.

The MMA leaders, who resigned from their parliamentary seats along with their party leaders on Oct 5 in protest against the presidential polls, alleged that owing to the fascist policies of the MQM and its absconding chief Altaf Hussain whenever any of their leaders like Azim Tariq and Khalid bin Waleed showed some dissent he was threatened and murdered. They alleged that the town nazims, who exercised some independence, were forced to put their resignations while citizens were told that they had been sacked as they were not serving them properly.

They said people were asking the Muttahida Qaumi Movement how it had supported the army chief to get re-elected now as president when their party had been criticising the army for carrying out Karachi Operation in 90s.

Documentary

A 35-minute documentary film, meanwhile, on the life and struggle of the Jamaat-i-Islami founder Maulana Moududi has been released with Sindhi and Punjabi translations. Its English translation will also be ready soon.
