Two soldiers killed in N. Waziristan

MIRAMSHAH, Oct 6: Two soldiers and a tribesman were killed and 26 security personnel were injured in attacks on checkposts and a military convoy in different areas of North Waziristan on Saturday.

Officials and eyewitnesses said the military convoy going from Dattakhel to Miramshah was attacked with two remote-controlled devices and then rockets hit it near the Ahmadkhel village in the Miramshah tehsil, killing one soldier, Amjad, and injuring 19 others.

Security forces retaliated with heavy mortar fire and also called in helicopter gunship to target militants’ positions. One mentally deranged man, Sharifullah, was killed and another person, Latif Khan, injured in the firing.

Sources said one security personnel was injured when militants attacked the Amin checkpost.

In the Mirali tehsil, one FC personnel was killed and six others were injured when an explosive device was set off by a remote-control near the Jallar checkpost. The injured were taken to a hospital.
