By Our Sports Reporter
LAHORE, Oct 6: Shahzaib Ahmed and company’s fine bowling display guided Pakistan Under-19s to a resounding nine-wicket win against Australia U-19s in the second one-dayer at the Sheikhupura Stadium on Saturday.
The win gave Pakistan U-19s a 2-0 lead in the five-match series as the hosts’ had won the first one-dayer at the same venue by seven wickets.
Shahzaib conceded 21 runs in 5.3 overs as the Australians were bundled out for a paltry 78 in just 23.3 overs. In reply, the home team achieved the target after losing opener Shan Masood (33), consuming just 11.4 overs. Ahmed Shahzad (30 not out) and Umar Amin (1 not out) overtook the target for a convincing win.
Earlier, the visitors began their batting disastrously. They were restricted to 16-4 in the 7th over as paceman Junaid Khan (two wickets) and Mohammad Rameez and Azhar Attari with one wicket each jolted the innings. The Aussies then never recovered, only to be dismissed for 78.
J Smith remained their top scorer with 23 while almost the whole team struggled to collect runs against an accurate Pakistan bowling attack.
The remaining three matches of the series will be played in Mirpurkhas.
