Special Olympics: Pakistan’s Ayesha bags gold in bocce event

KARACHI, Oct 6: Karachi’s Ayesha Kanwal did her country proud when she grabbed a gold medal in individual bocce event division 4 at the ongoing 12th Special Olympics World Summer Games in Shanghai, China, on Saturday, according to information reaching here.
She beat local player Jin-Ex 12-11 in the keenly contested final. Lahore’s Ayesha Irshad claimed silver in the same discipline when she went down 6-12 to Macau’s Tek San Chen.
Pakistani boys had already clinched a gold and a silver in the same event on Thursday.
Mohammad Umair Sarwar annexed silver in 500 metres cycling competition.
Tayyaba Fatima and Iqra Batool secured silver and bronze in cycling.
Their compatriot Waqas Ali was disqualified from 500 metres event on technical ground.
In football, Tanzania thrashed Pakistan 5-0 in a league match.
Pakistan’s cagers maintained their winning run when they edged Austria 26-14. They now take on Sweden on Sunday. However, the women’s team went down 6-11 to China.
The division process in track and field commenced on Saturday at Shanghai Stadium.
