MULTAN, Oct 6: A large number of people came out on the streets of various cities and towns across the country on Saturday night after President Pervez Musharraf was unofficially declared re-elected. They danced to folk music, yelled joyously and distributed sweets.
In Multan, a big rally was organised by the PML’s youth and labour wings. It was led by the city district nazim, Mian Faisal Mukhtar, and special assistant to Chief Minister Hafiz Iqbal Khakwani. Town nazims Mian Jamil Ahmad, Rai Arif Mansab, MPA Syed Mujahid Ali Shah also participated in the rally.
Several hundred kilogrammes of sweets were distributed in various localities in the city while many enjoyed the event by performing traditional folk dances.
In Quetta, PML celebrated the event by organizing a public rally that was led by the party’s city president, Abid Lehri.
The rally was followed by a fireworks show.
PML Khuzdar staged a public meeting in the Circuit House.
In Gwadar, PML workers organised a large public rally led by Ashraf Iqbal Baloch. People danced in the streets and shared sweets.
Mr Baloch said that the rally was staged to express public support for President Musharraf.
According to Mr Baloch the people of Balochistan had realised that President Pervez Musharraf was sincere about the socio- economic uplift of the province. He said Gen Musharraf had totally reshaped Balochistan.
In Karachi, thousands of PML activists rejoiced President Musharraf’s re-election. The party’s youth wing took out a big rally to mark the event.
A motorcade comprising hundreds of vehicles, led by PML Sindh’s secretary information Aleem Adil Sheikh, arrived at the Mazar-i-Quaid from Quaidabad via Shahrea Faisal, according to a party statement. Rallies from Gulshan-i-Iqbal, Landhi, Bin Qasim, Malir, Gadap towns and other areas also joined the motorcade.
PML leaders, including Naeem Adil Sheikh, Babar Anis, Rafiullah Khan, Zafarullah Khan, Khan Bahadur Shar, Fayyab Laghari, Raja Shahab, Waqar Hussain, Farhan Ali and Nisar Soomro presented sweets to journalists.
Sweets were also distributed in large quantity in various localities of Karachi. Hyderabad district nazim Kanwar Naveed Jamil led a rally to celebrate resident Musharraf’s unofficial re-election on Saturday night.
Nazims of union councils and 2 Taluka councils of Hyderabad city and Latifabad and officials of the district government joined the rally.—Agencies
