Community role in Fata uplift urged

PESHAWAR, Oct 6: NWFP Governor Ali Mohammad Jan Aurakzai on Saturday directed the authorities to encourage community participation in the execution of South Fata Development Project.

He issued these directives while receiving a presentation on the project here on Saturday.

Under the project, the communities will identify development schemes and monitor the implementation of the projects.

The governor said that all issues impeding smooth implementation of the project must be resolved in time.

He said that recruitment of the staff should be completed in a month and project employees be given attractive remuneration commensurate with their qualifications and experience.

Earlier, the governor was informed that a Rs1.198 billion project launched in Kurram, North and South Waziristan agencies in 2004 would be completed in March 2011.

The project’s goal is to improve the socio-economic condition of the people of the three agencies and improve the quality of life.

The sectors under focus are community development, agriculture development, rural infrastructure development and rural finance services.

So far, Rs321 million have been incurred on 319 schemes, medical camps, etc.A number of community groups have been trained in managerial and technical skills.

Training is also imparted in the fields of livestock, agriculture and forestry by way of organising workshops and demonstration.
