HYDERABAD: ANP warns of province-wide protests over workers’ arrest

HYDERABAD, Oct 6: The acting president of the Sindh chapter of Awami National Party (ANP), Haji Asmatullah Khan Mehsood, on Saturday condemned alleged arrest and torture of party workers in Karachi and warned of province-wide protests if workers were not released.
In a statement issued to the press Mr Mehsood said that his party believed in peace and non-violence and its workers never took law in their hands. It was, however, the party’s duty to take part in peaceful democratic struggle, he stressed.
The party would not be intimidated by arrests and continue to protest against the government’s undemocratic policies and decisions, he said and warned that if any attempt was made to crush peaceful struggle then the situation could take any turn for which the responsibility would rest with the government.
He claimed that the party president of the central district of Karachi, Niaz Mohammad, was asleep in his home when he was awakened by an SHO who requested him to advise his party workers to remain peaceful. When Niaz Mohammad left his house, some policemen shot at him and left him seriously injured, he alleged.
Mr Mehsood demanded that the government should register an FIR against the SHO and immediately order the release of party workers who were arrested in the central and Malir districts of Karachi.
FAMILY PENSION: District Coordination Officer (DCO) Aftab Ahmed Khatri announced on Saturday that the process of depositing monthly family pension from District Benevolent Fund in the bank accounts of each beneficiary had been started and all the beneficiaries had been advised to contact their concerned bank branches.
In a statement to press the official advised the beneficiaries who had not submitted their bank accounts, to submit them to the deputy director of Human Resources (HRM) at his office so that the amount could be transferred in their own accounts.
He said that the documentation of 408 beneficiaries was incomplete and advised the beneficiaries concerned and their department heads to complete their documents so that the payment could be transferred in their accounts at the earliest.The DCO informed that a cell had been established at the HRM section of his office to facilitate the Benevolent Fund beneficiaries and asked them to contact HRM section in case they faced any difficulty receiving payment.
FINED: The DDO of revenue Muhammad Saleem Rajput and mukhtiarkar Muhammad Ibrahim Almani booked 21 shopkeepers for overcharging and five persons for violating Ehtiram-i-Ramazan Ordinance and imposed a total of Rs11,400 fine on them during surprise visits to different markets of the city from Oct 1 to 3.
They warned the shopkeepers to refrain from overcharging and asked tehm to display government approved price lists outside their shops. They also appealed to people to cooperate with local administration.
