Rice exporters facing problems

Published October 7, 2007

KARACHI, Oct 6: As export season has set in, rice exporters have started facing problems due to restricted timing of trucks movement.

Exporters having warehouses and processing units in SITE or Hawkesbay areas send their container-laden cargo trucks to Port Qasim which pass through Mai Kolachi Road to Schon Circle and onwards Korangi, but due to restricted timings and shortage of labour, exporters cannot load containers and keep them standing.

FPCCI’s member managing committee Abdul Rahim Janoo has sent a letter to the city nazim, asking him to relax rules in the last days of Ramazan for movement of a small number of vehicles of export value cargo, because, at present, transporters are demanding higher transportation charges owing to inconveniences being faced by them.
