KARACHI, Oct 5: Pakistan added one more gold medal to their tally when Jasmin Mehmood Sharif swam to victory in the girls’ 50 metres free style at the 12th Special Olympics World Summer Games in Shanghai on Friday, according to the information received here.
Pakistan clinched a gold and a silver in bocce singles’ event on Thursday.
Jasmin, however, could not make it to the top three slots in 25 metres free style as she finished sixth.
Pakistan cagers continued their winning run when they chalked up a 32-16 victory over India in a one-sided game.
The women’s basketball team did not lag behind as they carved out a 22-15 victory over China (2) in the first round match. They now face Taipei on Saturday.
Karachi girl Ayesha Kanwal cruised into the girls’ singles bocce final after registering two back-to-back wins against Malaysian and Singaporean opponents in the 16-22 years age category with an identical score of 12-10.
Meanwhile, the preliminary rounds of athletics will commence at the Shanghai Stadium on Saturday.
