Rs3 million robbery at Gepco office

SIALKOT, Oct 5: Twenty dacoits looted seven power transformers, cables and other appliances worth Rs3 million from the office of Bhopalwala sub-divisional officer of the Gujranwala Electric Power Company (Gepco), on Thursday.

The dacoits held Gepco security guards Maqbool Ahmed and Khushi Muhammad and other officials at gunpoint and started looting the appliances. The intruders beat up security guards and other officials for putting up resistance. The dacoits loaded seven electrical transformers, heavy electrical cables and other appliances on trucks. Before leaving the office, the intruders locked the officials in a room and fled.

The accused also looted thousands of rupees, guns, mobile phones and other valuables from Maqbool, Khushi, Riasat Ali, Sajid Shah, Umer Daraz, Shahid Ali, Ejaz Ahmad and Zahid Nasir.

Sambrial police registered a case with no arrest. Gepco officials expressed concern over the incident, demanding an immediate arrest of the accused. Sialkot District Police Officer Muhammad Ameen said the accused would be arrested soon.
