MIANWALI, Oct 5: Like other parts of the province, Teachers’ Day was also celebrated here on Friday.
In this regard, a ceremony was arranged at Jinnah Hall to honour distinguished teachers. National Commission for Human Development District General Manager Sardar Asif, who presided over the ceremony, said the day was aimed at acknowledging teachers’ services globally.
Executive District Officer for Revenue Syed Oast Ali Shah, who was chief guest on the occasion, said teachers in the Pakistani society were regarded third-rate citizens.
Prof Sarwar Khan Niazi said teachers were one of the most neglected classes of the society. He said teachers were being paid less than bank watchmen and police constables, but society was expecting them to produce scientists, scholars, doctors and pilots.
At the end of the ceremony, 12 teachers were given ‘Best teacher award’. Those who were honoured included Ms Riaz of Government Community Model School, Kalabagh; Ms Rasheeda of Government Girls Elementary School, Gulmiri; Sadar Assistant Education Officer Ms Noor Jehan, Deputy District Education Officer Ms Hameedullah, Ms Fozia, Ms Akhtar Niazi, Ms Shazia Yasmin, Ms Amina Naheed, Ghulam Rasool, Amanullah Khan, Abdul Rehman, DDEO Saad Rasool, Gulistan Khan, Abdul Rashid, Jawad Shah and Faiz Muhammad.
