Demolition of village stirs protest

KHAIRPUR, Oct 5: Scores of activists and office-bearers of 10 labour federations and civil society organisations took out a procession here on Friday to protest against the demolition of village Jumma Kalmati in Karachi.

During the demolition operation, a resident of Ranipur district Khairpur, Sultan Ahmed, was killed.

The procession was started from the Phool Bagh and after marching through different roads it converged at civil centre chowk where they staged a demonstration.

Speaking on the occasion, labour leaders said that the houses of labour class were being bulldozed in Karachi.

They added that the Sindh government had announced that villages of Karachi would not be demolished but despite the announcement, village Jumma was demolished where houses of poor people were destroyed and a number of people were killed and injured.

They blamed an influential building mafia for the act and deplored that nobody raised voice against it.

Shahbaz Dino Phulpoto, Bashir Junejo, Shahnawaz Dahot, Takkar Shaikh and Aijaz Abbasi spoke on the occasion.

MISSING: The students of the government degree college Thari Mirwah boycotted their classes on Friday to protest against the missing of two students of their college namely Mohammad Din alias Saddam and Ghulam Akbar, both residents of Sikandarabad.

The students boycotted their classes and staged demonstration in front of the college. The Jeay Sindh Students’ Federation had given the call for the protest.

The students raised slogans against police and administration for showing lack of interest in recovery of the missing students.
