HYDERABAD: Fire in godown destroys wooden sleepers

HYDERABAD, Oct 5: A fire at godown of the Tandojam Railway Station reduced to ashes wooden sleepers worth tens of thousand of rupees, on Friday. The cause of fire could not be ascertained.

The strong winds made conditions worse as over dozen quarters of railway employees also came under fire. Inmates saved their lives by vacating quarters with their valuables.

An 11kv line passing over the godown was also destroyed and one railway track was seriously damaged. The Hyderabad-Mirpurkhas bound train was also stopped at the nearest railway station for quite sometime.

According to reports, fire tenders reached the spot after three hours and took two hours to extinguish the blaze. Household goods lying in quarters were also gutted.

Railway Official, Manzoor Malik told reporters the reason of the fire was still not known. Employees removed some slippers to check the spread of fire.

The senior railway officials did not reach the spot till the filing of this report.
