LAKKI MARWAT, Oct 4: A police official was killed when a patrol vehicle was ambushed on the Indus Highway near here on Wednesday night.

A joint police-FC team was patrolling the highway near Umar Adda in a vehicle of the Darra Pezu police station.

The attack left SHO Inspector Haibat Ali Khan critically injured. The police officer was initially taken to a local hospital which referred him to a hospital in Peshawar. But he did not survive because of the severity of his wounds.

District Police Officer of Lakki Marwat Waqif Khan said that a heavy contingent of police and Frontier Constabulary personnel raided various areas bordering the Frontier Region of Lakki and Tank which they thought were being used as hideouts by proclaimed absconders and suspected people.

He said that sniffer dogs had also been brought in to trace the accused. He praised the slain police official for his dedication to duty.
