MIRPURKHAS, Oct 4: The police arrested five bandits while they were fleeing after committing a house robbery in Digri town on Thursday.

Five dacoits barged into the house of a goldsmith, Kanwar Lal, and held the inmates hostage on gun point. A woman and her child were beaten up when she offered resistance. After looting gold ornaments, cash and valuables, the dacoits left the house in a van.

As the van reached Mirwah check-post, the police intercepted it and arrested three dacoits identified as Kashif Abbasi, Jan Mohammed and Manesh. During interrogation, the accused told the police about their two accomplices, Sardaro Soomro and Shahzad. The police arrested them from a train which was about to leave for Dhoronaro.

The police also recovered three TT pistols and bullets from the possession of the dacoits and impounded the van used in the crime. Satellite Town SPO Abid Kaimkhani told journalists that the van had been hired from Mirpurkhas. He said that Sardaro Soomro, belonging to Dhoronaro, was the ring leader of the gang and was involved in different crimes in Mirpurkhas and Umerkot districts.
