Kabul urged to facilitate prisoners’ release

Bureau Report

PESHAWAR, Oct 4: The Awami National Party has proposed to the Afghan government to create a department to facilitate the release of Pakistani prisoners languishing in various jails in Afghanistan.

ANP provincial president Afrasiab Khattak said he had recently discussed the issue with Afghan Attorney-General Abdul Jabar Sabit in Kabul who agreed to create a special wing to handle the problem.

“I am sure the Afghan government will look into the matter on humanitarian ground and set up special department to expedite the release of Pakistani prisoners,” he hoped.

Mr Khattak said he had provided to the Afghan authorities a list of 30 prisoners who had been arrested in ordinary cases. He said that at present there was no department or cell in Kabul from where the Pakistanis could get information about the prisoners.

He said he had identified up to 30 Pakistani prisoners in various jails in Afghanistan.
