KARACHI: Govt depts told to set up legal cells

KARACHI, Oct 4: All provincial departments have been asked to establish their own legal cells so that litigation could be handled in an effective manner.

A communication to this effect was sent to administrative secretaries, inspector general police, senior member Board of Revenue, DCOs and other officials on Thursday from the office of the Chief Secretary, Ejaz Ahmed Qureshi.

Departmental heads have been asked to ensure submission of the government’s rejoinders and para-wise comments whenever the same are required by courts and services tribunals, besides making sure that such things were being done accurately and promptly. He directed officials to keep in contact with lawyers and other concerned staff in this regard.

The chief secretary has maintained that it has become necessary to implement the courts’ verdicts and directives in different cases and ensure timely action on the issues concerned. He warned against any negligence in this regard.—PPI
