MIRAMSHAH/BANNU, Oct 2: Two militants and a paramilitary soldier were among four people killed in clashes in different parts of North Waziristan on Monday night and two Frontier Constabulary personnel were killed in an attack on a checkpost near the Frontier Region of Bannu.
Officials said militants fired rockets on the Ghazlamai checkpost in the Datakhel area of North Waziristan, killing one paramilitary soldier and injuring three others. Two militants were killed when security forces retaliated.
They said the bodies of the militants had been brought to Miramshah, the agency headquarters.
Clashes also took place at various other checkposts and the headquarters of a paramilitary base in Miramshah came under a rocket attack.
Local people said the clashes started at about 1am and continued for more than two hours. Missiles and rockets were used by both sides.
They said 10 houses were partially damaged when artillery shells hit residential compounds in a Miramshah village. One woman was killed and another woman and three children were injured, according to hospital sources.
An official said militants targeted checkposts in Sargardan, Amin and Gora Qabristan in the Miramshah tehsil.
In the attack on the Rocha checkpost near the Frontier Region of Bannu on Monday evening, two Frontier Constabulary personnel were killed and three others injured.
Sources said the whereabouts of 22 FC personnel who had gone missing after the attack were not known.
Bodies of the deceased soldiers, Farid Gul and Waheed Alam, have been sent to their villages.
Officials said 31 soldiers were in the checkpost when it was attacked. Nine of them had returned to their base in Bannu and 22 were still missing.
