LONDON, Oct 2: Hugh Morris and former England captain Mike Gatting were given new roles in the England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB) on Tuesday, covering the management of all levels of cricket.
Morris, the former captain of county side Glamorgan, was promoted from ECB deputy chief executive to managing director of the England side. He starts on Monday in his new role.
Gatting, who played 79 Tests for England, will have a similar role for all levels below the national team, beginning immediately.
The restructuring comes a week after Giles Clarke won a second ballot to succeed David Morgan as chairman of the ECB. Clarke will officially take over after the ECB’s full membership endorses him, which is scheduled to be completed by Oct 10.
It also follows the recommendations of the Schofield report published in May, which was set up to review the sport after England lost the Ashes series 5-0 in Australia in January.
Also, former England women’s captain Clare Connor will succeed the retiring Gill McConway as the head of women’s cricket. –AP
