Lahore Shalimar in sight of big win

LAHORE, Oct 2: While Lahore Shalimar were eyeing a massive win against Karachi Urban, Lahore Ravi’s match against Islamabad was heading towards a draw on the second day at the Inter-region U-19 cricket championship on Tuesday.

Fine bowling by Lahore Shalimar off-spinner Naeem-ul-Haq (3-20) and leg-spinner Hafiz Saad Nasim (3-45) spun out Karachi Urban in their first innings for 210 on Tuesday, to force them to follow on at the LCCA ground, as the home team had amassed 369 in their first innings on Monday.

Only Zeeshan Rahim (74) and Mohammad Hasan (51) were the key scorers for Karachi Urban. At stumps, the visitors, in their second innings, were tottering at 134-7 as Ali Haider claimed three wickets.

At the Country Club, Muridke, fine knocks by openers Adil Mirza (75) and Noman Masood (57) helped Islamabad score 306 in their first innings, to give a perfect reply to Lahore Ravi’s daunting total of 309.

APP adds: At the Landhi Gymkhana Ground, Karachi, off-spinner Abdul Islam Khan produced excellent figures of 8-94 to dismiss Karachi Harbour for 243 in their first innings on the second day of their match against Faisalabad.

Islam’s bowling helped Faisalabad gain a 65-run lead and at stumps they were 47-1 in their second innings.

At the KRL Stadium, Rawalpindi, Peshawar were facing defeat against Rawalpindi thanks to a nine-wicket haul by paceman Nasir Malik.

Nasir took 6 wickets for 59 as Peshawar were bowled out for 161 and crashed to 83 in the second innings with Nasir claiming three for 18. For Rawalpindi, Samiullah smashed an unbeaten 86 to steer his team’s total to 203.
