Three suspects surrender : Quintuplet murder

GUJRANWALA, Oct 2: Three suspects of quintuplet murder near Lohianwala Bypass a couple of weeks ago surrendered before the Gakkhar police on Tuesday.

Javed Iqbal, a former union council nazim, Nasir and Anser were named for murdering five people including two councillors, Muhammad Aslam, alias Achoo, and Muhammad Aslam, alias Baggo. Another man died of cardiac arrest after seeing the bodies of the five slain.

Initially, a case was registered with Aroop police but its probe was later transferred to the Gakkhar police and station house officer was investigating the case.

CRACKDOWN: The police on Tuesday claimed to have arrested 44 members of 13 inter-district gangs of robbers and seized a huge cache of looted valuables and unlicenced weapons from their possession.

Speaking at a briefing, DIG Khadhim Hussain Bhatti said the outlaws were wanted in 118 cases of robbery and dacoity.

Those who were arrested include Amanullah Cheema, Zulfikar, Azam, Shahzad, Khizer Hayat, Saleem, alias Sleemo, Saleem, alias Thaker, Yousef, Arshed, alias Achoo, Karman, Mahmood, Shahdi and Iftikhar Ahmad, alias Khara.

The DIG said the police seized an AK-47 rifle, nine rifles, two 222 pump action rifles, 59 pistols and revolvers besides three snatched cars, 67 cellular phones, five computers, 15 television sets, 15 tolas gold jewellery and cash worth thousands of rupees from their possession.

OVERCHARGING: At least 95 shopkeepers were arrested and fined for overcharging and not displaying rate lists during the continuing drive against price hike here on Tuesday.

Raiding teams accompanied by price magistrates raided different markets and bazaars in Wazirabad, Kamoki, Naushera Virkan, Ghakkhar, Alipur Chattha, Qila Deedar Singh localities and Aroop Town, Nandipur Town and Khiali Shahpur Town areas in city and arrested 95 shopkeepers, milkmen and butchers who were later fined Rs2,000 to Rs5,000 each, Rs168,000 in total.

EXAMS: Masoodul Haq, the chairman of the Board of Intermediate and Secondary Education, paid a surprise visit to several matriculation supplementary 2007 examination centres in Kamoki and Aimanabad on Tuesday.

He expressed his satisfaction over the arrangements made by the administration to conduct examination transparently.
