KARACHI, Oct 2: The Sindh Minister for Labour and Industries, Mohammed Adil Siddiqi, said that the availability of information regarding professionals, skilled and non-skilled workforce was a must for the development of a country.
Deploring the absence of such a system in the country, he said that for the first time the process of computerised data of skilled and non-skilled manpower in various sectors had been initiated, which would facilitate the labour market, industrial and commercial organistions and policymakers in getting labour force as per their requirements.
He was speaking as chief guest at the inauguration of the computer section at the Directorate of Manpower and Training, Sindh and distribution ceremony of computers among various employment exchanges in the province here on Tuesday.
The project has been initiated with the assistance of the International Labour Organisation (ILO).
The minister said that computerisation of the record of skilled and non-skilled labour force would benefit the researchers, policymakers and industrial and commercial organizations.
Besides data computerisation, he said, the directorate would also publish a directory of an annual survey which, besides providing information about industries, would also help assess the new trends among the labour force and advanced information would also be made available about new trades.
Mr Siddiqi said that it was very important for an employer to posses complete information about the problems of the labour market.
The minister was informed that after the compilation of this system under this directorate, relevant information would be continuously available about surveys of professional, technical, vocational training institutions and also regarding the labour market.
Later, the labour minister distributed computers among employment exchanges of Site, Landhi and Vocational Guidance Office, Karachi under a phase wise programme for 17 such exchanges.—APP
