Dismal show by Pakistan bridge squad

BEIJING, Oct 1: Pakistan defeated India but lost to Poland and China on the second day of preliminary rounds of the Bermuda Bowl World bridge championship in Shanghai on Monday.

Pakistan beat India 23-7 but conceded defeats with heavy margins in the matches against Poland (4-25) and host China (9-21), Kemal Shoaib, the non-playing member of the Pakistani team, said.

He said that after Monday’s results Pakistan fell from second place to 12th.

On Tuesday, Pakistan will face New Zealand, Indonesia and Norway.

There are twenty-two teams taking part in the championship and they are divided into two groups.

The week-long round robin league matches of the tournament are being played in three sessions every day, in which each team is competing against another.—APP
