BADIN, Oct 1: Fishermen from different coastal areas demonstrated against Chairman Pakistan Fisherfolk Forum, Syed Mohammad Ali Shah and other officials at Badin for allegedly dividing their community.
Led by Mohammad Soomar Mallah, Anwar Mallah and representatives of Mallah Ittehad Badin, hundreds of fishermen began the rally from Qattar mosque. They raised slogans against the chairman PFF and its office-bearers for allegedly taking possession of Nareri Lake by force.
They marched on city roads, burnt tyres and created hurdles for traffic. Later, after reaching the DPO Chowk, they staged a sit-in at Badin-Karachi Road resulting in suspension of vehicular traffic for over two hours.
Haji Soomar Mallah said the PFF office-bearers had created differences among peaceful fishermen by offering money and alleged that its Chairman Mohammad Ali Shah instigated his people to take over the Nareri Lake, creating difference among the fishing community.
He said all fishermen were living peacefully, however, after the PFF intervention the Mallah community had been divided.
He demanded immediate arrest of the aggressors and registration of FIRs against them. Protest was ended when in-charge DPO Badin, Anwar Ali Mari assured them of registering criminal cases against the people involved.
