LAHORE, Sept 30: A delegation of the International Cricket Council (ICC) will
visit Pakistan on Nov 2 and 3 to inspect the facilities available at the venues
where the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) intends to hold the ICC Champions Trophy
in 2008.
It will be the second visit of the ICC delegation to Pakistan in this
connection.
PCB chief operating officer Shafqat Naghmi told Dawn the board suggested the
date to the ICC for the visit which the latter accepted.
He added the ongoing series against South Africa would be finished by that time
and the PCB would be in a better position to brief the delegation.
Naghmi said the PCB on Saturday requested the other hosts of the 2011 Word Cup
(India, Sri Lanka, Bangladesh) to hold a joint meeting in Dubai on Nov 12 to
discuss format of the mega event.
The PCB official defended the choice of Dubai since ICC commercial manager
Campbell Jamieson would also attend the meeting. Earlier, the meeting was to be
held in Lahore.
The format of the World Cup will be presented to chairmen of cricket boards of
the four countries who will give it final touches and present it to the ICC for
approval.
The meeting of the chairmen is likely to be held in India, most probably on Dec
7, before start of the final Test between Pakistan and India in Bangalore.
