All eyes on Miss Poly at Lahore Racecourse

By Aftab Gilani

LAHORE, Sept 29: Thoroughbred three-year-old chestnut filly Miss Poly with an impressive victory on the trot starts off as our day’s best when the 5th Lahore Winter Meeting gets underway at the Racecourse on Sunday afternoon.

Contesting in the fifth race in a card of seven events, Miss Play, owned by Malik Hamid Ali Noon, had a splendid win to her credit in a class five division two race which was contested over 1100 metres on Sept 16.

She has now been promoted to the first division of the same class, still the daughter of Polinesso out-of-Miss Catherine, should have no difficulty to make it two in a row.

Richy Dancer and Red Hot Fire are ready to give Miss Poly tough time in a field of nine runners barring last-minute withdrawals.

Desert Prince, an impressive bay colt (Bedouine Invader-Four Aces), owned by Mirza Khurshid Baig, is another thoroughbred that looks set for stealing the honours in the class four division II and III race to be gone over 1400 metres.

The colt has already registered two back-to- back victories and would be on the hat-trick trail on Sunday.

It is interesting to note that on both the occasions Desert Prince had won as favourite and belied the statement of Jockey Club Of Pakistan (JCP) steward Munir Dar who believed that Baig’s favourite horse never wins.

Desert Prince should be followed by two fillies, Chill and Poly Cat. This will be sixth race of the day.

Three-year-old filly Koshalia who was beaten by Reborn last Sunday will be going all out to make amends this time in the third race of the card.

Shah Rani, Princess Afaq and Cross Ruff should fight for less remunerative positions.

The racing fans should witness a keen contest in the first race with God Gift, Tosca, Bone Crusher and Leader’s Wing going flat out to pick up the spoils.

The look of the horses in the paddock and the rider would matter the most while picking the choice of betting in this race.

Speedy bay colt Striker is fancied to edge out Simoom and Weldon Shogun with Royal Palace completing the frame in the second race.

The running of Striker on last Sunday was very impressive for picking him for the spoils.

Gray filly Lucky Cat, who put up a dismal show on Sept 2, should make amends and pick up the spoils in the fourth race.

The filly had started off as a 30 to 100 favourite but ran miserably when slithered to fifth position after running second for a short while.

Lucky Cat may have had slight setback in training due to injury and must have recovered by now.

The filly will have to bring out her best in overcoming the likes of Trump Coup, Dazzy Against All and Royal Victory.

Dillagi, beaten on her last run, will have to stretch out fully to make amends this time in the seventh and last race.

Mosaic and Pukkar will be running for second and third berths.

Brave Heart is a new entry and nothing can be predicted about it.

The first race will be held at 1pm.
