Quince poised for hat-trick at KRC

By Anwar Zuberi

KARACHI, Sept 29: Four-year-old chestnut colt Quince looks poised to complete hat-trick should he return with flying colours in the Gymkhana race meeting at the Karachi Racecourse on Sunday.

His two facile wins on trot under champion rider M. Nasir are true indicator of his current form and suggest that he should again dominate the field which has 14 aspirants in fray barring last minute withdrawls.

This will be the sixth race of programme in the top division of class VII to be gone over a sprinting distance of five furlongs.

Those who can pose him serious challenge are filly Leopard Of Arab and colt Red Rufus.

Reyan King, the four-year-old colt, should make it two-in-a-row by claiming the feature event, which is the eighth and last race of the day.

He had posted a splendid seven furlongs victory over Moon Raker last weekend.

He should be chased by Tharkyee and Dragon Heart for the places.

With two successive wins under her belt, Quince’s stable-mate filly Sugar Sweet is a hot contender to land the supporting event under rider Ghulam Shabbir II.

However, she will have to overcome Friendly Fire, Smiling and of course Kat Mandu to accomplish the task.

Nine-year-old bay Daruwala, five-year-old bay mare Mixed Blessings and another five-year-old bay mare Closing Argument should repeat their feats while Jaguar and Sweetie Pie are our fancy in the remaining two races.
