LAHORE, Sept 29: The Punjab Union of Journalists staged a demonstration outside the Lahore Press Club here on Saturday to condemn the police brutality against journalists in Islamabad and announced to observe black day on Sunday (today) on the call of Pakistan Federal Union of Journalists.

The journalists displayed banners and placards and raised slogans against police excesses against mediamen outside the Election Commission of Pakistan at Islamabad.

Speaking on the occasion, PUJ President Arif Hamid and Lahore Press Club Secretary Syed Shoaibuddin condemned the `state terrorism’ in Islamabad and announced that the media would not accept restrictions on freedom of expression.

Lahore Bar Association Vice-President Mian Asmatullah and Secretary Khawar Bashir announced holding of a rally in the provincial metropolis on Sunday (today) to condemn the police excesses on journalists.
