GUJRAT, Sept 29: Three brothers, one of them a former general councillor, were shot dead and their guest was injured by the firing of their rivals at Manglia village in Kharian’s Gulliana police station precinct on Friday night.

Reports said former councillor Muhammad Amin and his brothers Muhammad Younis and Muhammad Iqbal and a guest, Haroon, were engaged in gossips at their house when their rival Khalid Hanif group opened fire on them from the roof of an adjacent house, killing the three brothers. Their guest Haroon suffered injuries.

The Gulliana police registered a triple murder case against 18 people on the report of Muhammad Yaseen, another brother of the slain.

Among those nominated were Khalid Hanif, Waseem, Muhammad Yousaf, Sadiq, Ijaz, Mushtaq, Kafeel, Mustafa, Ashiq, Israr and Ghulam Nabi.

Sources told Dawn that the suspects had already gunned down Muhammad Ibraheem and Manzoor of the same family one year ago and the two cases were registered against the chief culprit, Khalid Hanif, besides Ijaz, Mushtaq, Waseem, Bahadur and others.

The victimised family has blamed the police for the incident as they said the law enforcers did not arrest any of the culprits during the last one year. The previous cases were registered by the Kharian Saddar police station.

The bodies were handed over to the heirs following the autopsy at the Kharian civil hospital on Saturday.

In another incident, a man was shot dead by the firing of some unidentified people at Peer Jaafar village that too falls in the Gulliana police jurisdiction.
