PPP not for uniformed president: Gillani

By Our Staff Reporter

MULTAN, Sept 29: Former speaker of the National Assembly and Vice-Chairman of the Pakistan People’s Party Syed Yousaf Raza Gillani said on Saturday the party’s talks with government could not succeed and it has decided not to accept Pervez Musharraf as president in uniform.

He said the two sides were holding talks on various issues including president’s uniform, indemnity for all politicians, fair elections, constitutional bar on third time premiership and validity of Article 52-B.

He said despite the PPP’s opposition the 17th amendment was approved by the assembly and now President Pervez Musharraf was taking its advantage.

He said like the lawyers his party also did not want to provide any opportunity to the government which it could use in the future legal war.

He said that he would not accept any assembly not having Benazir Bhutto and Nawaz Sharif as members.
