Two lawmakers not to resign

By Muqaddam Khan

SWABI, Sept 28: MNA Maulana Khalil Ahmad, chief of the Jamiat Ulema-i-Islam (Haqiqi), and MPA Dr Mohammad Salim of the Swabi Qaumi Mahaz on Friday said they would not follow the All Parties Democratic Movement’s decision to resign from assemblies.

Maulana Khalil was elected from NA-13 (Swabi-II) and Dr Salim from PF-31 (Swabi-I) in the 2002 general election.

The two lawmakers said they would not support the APDM ‘policy of resignation’, adding that the alliance leaders had not taken them into confidence.

They said they would adopt an independent approach according to policies of their own parties. Apparently, they were not interested in joining the APDM’s struggle to block President Gen Pervez Musharraf’s re-election from the current assemblies.
