HYDERABAD, Sept 28: Rich tributes were paid to the noted writer, late Nooruddin Sarki for his invaluable services to the cause of Sindh and Sindhi language and literature at a condolence meeting held at Sindh Education Trust here on Thursday.
Mohammad Ibrahim Joyo presided over the meeting which was attended by Prof Aijaz Qureshi, Nazeer Memon, Nazeer Essani, Abrar Kazi, Zulfiqar Halepoto, Taj Joyo and many other literary figures.
The speakers said that Nooruddin Sarki with other sincere writers had laid the basis for strengthening Sindhi literature and had taken practical steps in this direction.
They said that he was in the vanguard in the struggle against the One Unit and he had rendered tremendous services in the language struggle.
They said his services in the promotion of Sindhi language and literature could never be forgotten.
With the departure of Hindu writers, and after the Partition, Sindhi literature received a great setback. Then, they said, it was the Sindhi Adabi Sangat that come into existence to protect, preserve and promote Sindhi literature.
They said that late Nooruddin Sarki was in the forefront in the struggle. They said, wherever, a history of this struggle was compiled, Sarki’s name will be written in bold letters.
STP: A large number of STP activists staged a protest outside the press club, here on Friday, against the murder of Gul Hassan Bhayo, a political leader of Kashmore district and inordinate delay in the arrest of the murderers.
Speaking on the occasion, the central general secretary of the party, Hote Khan Gaddi, Muzaffar Kalhoro, Ms Sehar Rizvi and others demanded the arrest of the culprits and said that the so-called sardars, jagirdars and waderas were responsible for the tribal wars.
They said, the tribal system in Sindh which had been buried, has been resurrected by the establishment to create disunity among the Sindhi people. They said, due to the sardars and jagirdars, Sindh and Sindhi society were being destroyed and many areas have become no-go-areas for the people.
They said, it was open terrorism and the people were being held hostages at the hands of the criminals who were being patronised and nurtured by the sardars and jagirdars. They wondered why the MQM government which was against the Sardari and Jagirdari system was taking no action against these criminals.
UC EMPLOYEES: About three dozen employees of UC Seeri who had been transferred to taluka Hyderabad (rural) and Latifabad staged a protest outside the press club here on Friday against the non-payment of two months’ salaries to them.
Their leaders, Zahid Hussain, Mashooq Ali and Imtiaz Ahmed said that they had met with the two taluka nazims for the payment of their salaries but were informed that no budgetary allocations had been made for their salaries.
They said they met with the support officer who told them that their salaries were lying with the finance department Shahbaz Building and that they should approach their TMOs. They met with the Latifabad taluka nazim who told them to wait. They appealed to the authorities to release their salaries immediately.
