‘Gilgit people to get rights soon’

Published September 28, 2007

GILGIT, Sept 27: People of the Gilgit-Baltistan will soon get their constitutional rights after the law department approves amendments to the Legal Framework Order initiated by the Northern Areas Legislative Council, according to the outgoing General Officer Commanding, Lt-Gen Mohsin Kamal.

He was addressing an iftar reception on Wednesday night. Lt-Gen Kamal, who would soon take charge of his new assignment as the corps commander of Rawalpindi, said the NALC was the region’s highest public forum which played an important role in maintaining sectarian peace and harmony and hoped that the council would effectively tackle the problem of sectarianism in future. He claimed that the government had increased the allocation of development funds and initiated large-scale poverty alleviation projects.
