Lawyers’ protest

Published September 28, 2007

QUETTA, Sept 27: Lawyers in the provincial capital and all district headquarters boycotted court proceedings in protest against President Musharraf’s filing of nomination papers for re-election as president.

Baz Muhammad Kakar, president of the Balochistan Bar Association, and Shakeel Ahmed Hadi, president of the Balochistan High Court Bar Association, addressed the lawyers in the district court bar room. They said the unity of lawyers had ensured the vindication of the stance of the Pakistan Bar Council and the Supreme Court Bar Association in their struggle to reinstate the chief justice of Pakistan.

Representatives of the lawyers’ organisations reiterated that they supported the lawyers’ struggle against President Musharraf’s re-election. Lawyers also boycotted courts in Pishin, Chaman, Loralai, Zhob, Mastung, Kalat, Khuzdar, Hub, Panjgur, Turbat, Sibi and Dera Murad Jamali.—Correspondent
