KARACHI : Minimum wages draft finalised

KARACHI, Sept 27: The Minimum Wages Board, acting upon the Sindh government’s directives, has finalised the draft recommendations for fixing minimum wages for the workers of various industries.

The draft covers the following industries: Auto workshop and garages, Bidi-binding, brick kiln, bus body manufacturing, cement, ceramic, cotton ginning and processing, chemical processing, construction, cycle manufacturing, electric appliances, flour milling, food processing, furniture and wood work, glass products, hotel, iron steel and fabricated metal, machine-made carpet, machinery, paints and varnish, paper products, petroleum, pharmaceutical products, plastic products, printing press, readymade garments, rice husking, road transport, rubber products, silk/rayon (small units) and power looms, soap manufacturing, sugar, tannery, textile, tobacco and transport equipment.

These 26 industries have been notified in the extraordinary gazette of the provincial government dated Sept 22, 2007 for inviting objections/suggestions from the quarters concerned.

The concerned parties could send their objections/suggestions to the Secretary, Sindh Minimum Wages Board, Old KDA Building, Sindh Secretariat No.3, Karachi, within 30 days.—Agencies
