KARACHI: Drive against polluting vehicles


KARACHI, Sept 27: The traffic police started another drive against smoke-emitting vehicles on Thursday. DIG Traffic Wajid Ali Khan said that earlier the drive had taken off on Sept 22. During the first five days action had been taken against 122 rickshaws, 119 buses, 60 minibuses, 52 mini-trucks, 24 water tankers, 58 trucks and 14 jeeps, cars, cabs, etc, the traffic chief added.

He said that a vehicle found emitting smoke for the first time would be fined and impounded for three days, while second time the period would be extended to one-week that would be extended to two-weeks for third violation. After which, the vehicle’s route permit would be cancelled.—PPI
