HOVE (England), Sept 26: English county champions Sussex have released Pakistan off-spinner Saqlain Mushtaq on his request.
“Sussex County Cricket Club regrets that, owing to personal reasons, Saqlain Mushtaq will be unable to fulfil his contract next season. He has, therefore, been released from the club,” said a statement from Hove.
Saqlain, a 30-year-old bowler, said: “I would like to thank the whole team at Sussex for all the opportunities they have given me this season.”
Saqlain took 14 wickets in the four Championship matches but his opportunities were limited behind compatriot and leg-spinner Mushtaq Ahmed.
“The club has been wonderful and it is with a heavy heart that I have to say goodbye for my own personal reasons,” he said.
Saqlain had signed a two-year contract at Hove in February having previously been a regular at Surrey.
Sussex’s pro cricket manager Mark Robinson said: “We would like to thank Saqlain for all
he has given to the club and wish him well if he decides to stay in the game, or indeed whatever future holds for him.”—Agencies
