Bridge team departs for China

KARACHI, Sept 26: The Pakistan bridge team left for Shanghai, China, here on Wednesday to feature in the Bermuda Bowl World bridge championship scheduled to be held there from Sept 30 to Oct 13.

The team included Abdul Rehman Allana-Jan-e-Azlam Fazli, Javed Miran-Masood Azhar, Rashid Jafer-Sarfraz Ahmed Khan. Kemal Shoaib is a non-playing member of the team.

Prior to his departure, Pakistan captain Rehman Allana said that was the best Pakistan team in a decade going to China. He said their first target was to make the quarter-finals round in the event in which 22 countries are participating. “Our team is fully prepared and focused for the task ahead. If we play our best, we are capable of reaching the knock-out stage,” he maintained.

Allana said in Jane Alam Fazli they had services of the most experienced bridge player who was part of the team which finished runners-up in Bermuda Bowl in 1981 and 1985.—Agencies
