MULTAN, Sept 26: Continuing swoop on the All Parties Democratic Movement activists on Wednesday, the police took into custody many more of them in various parts of the province.
The Multan police arrested and detained 12 leaders and workers during the day-long raids. Those held were: Tariq Naeemullah, a former PML secretary-general who joined the PML-N a few months ago, Jamaat-i-Islami amir Rao Zafar Iqbal, Islami Jamiat Tulaba (Bahauddin Zakariya University) Nazim Tanveer Ahmad, PML-N Chattan city vice-president Imtiaz Gulzar, MSF city vice-president Naveed Tabbasum, Amir Tariq Abbasi, Muhammad Javed, Mehr Qayyum Nawaz, Arshad Ali Qureshi and Sheikh Younis.
Regional Police officer Mirza Muhammad Ali confirmed the arrest of 32 people in six districts — Multan, Khanewal, Sahiwal, Vehari, Pakpattan and Lodhran.
BAHAWALPUR: Thirteen activist of the PML-N and four of the JUI were arrested overnight in Bahawalpur. They included Chenab Rasul UC Nazim Dewan Maqbool Bokhari and MMA (Yazman) secretary-general Mulana Muhammad Nawaz. Four activists were rounded up at Ahmedpur East.
Meanwhile, several leaders, including PML-N MPA Malik Iqbal Channar and district president Mumtaz Jajja, went into hiding and the police raids at their residences proved futile.
TOBA TEK SINGH: The city police arrested Jamaat-i-Islami leader Mufti Sanaullah. They, however, released PML-N leader Mirza Abdul Raheem Qamar.
PML-N activists Sheikh Arif Gogi, labour councillor Shahid Javed Jaidi and Mirza Shabbir Baig were sent to the judicial lockup.
GUJRANWALA: Police arrested PML-N district president Mehmood Bashir and secretary-general Rana Amir Afzal.
