Collapses of bridges over the past decade
PARIS: Some deadly bridge collapses around the world since 2000:
— March 2001, Portugal: 58 people die when a century-old road bridge collapses.
— May 2002, United States: 13 die when a river barge hits a bridge pillar in Oklahoma.
— July 2002, Nigeria: 14 die as a wooden bridge collapses over a lagoon.
— June 2003, Jordan: 10 dead in the collapse of a bridge under construction.
— Aug 2003, India: 20 children and an adult die as a bridge falls into a river near Mumbai.
— Dec 2003, Bolivia: At least 29 die as floods wash away a road bridge.
— Nov 2005, China: At least 13 workers killed when the bridge they are building in the southwest of the country collapses.
— Aug 2006, Pakistan: At least 40 die as rains wash away a bridge.
— Dec 2006, India: At least 34 dead as a bridge collapses onto a train.
