Raw materials exempted from duty

ISLAMABAD, Sept 26: The Federal Board of Revenue (FBR) has exempted import of raw materials used in the manufacturing of various products from customs duty.

The changes were notified through a customs notification SRO 981 by amending the SRO 565 of 2006 issued on Wednesday.

According to the amendments, the exemption of duty and taxes on import of compressor will be when it is used with non-CFC and HCFC gases. The exemption will be effective, retrospectively, from June 10, 2007.

The customs duty in excess of 15 per cent has been notified on two new raw materials used in the manufacturing of car air conditioners — evaporators enamelled and coated for antirust; condensers.

The raw material of ceramics has been redefined for duty exemption, which will be now available on printing hardener/emulsion/oil/ and mixture of chemical (defoculant for ceramic body).

The duty exemption of raw materials for CNG kits has also been amended. The duty exemption will now be available on diaphragm regulator diaphragms and components of CNG regulators.

A new raw material ‘flux cored soldier wire’ for electrical capacity has been allowed at a duty rate of five per cent. The government has exempted customs duty in excess of five per cent on raw materials of fortified rosin raw--gum rosin, maleic anhydride.

The duty in excess of 10 per cent on import of raw materials of laminated board — raw chipboard/particle board has been allowed. The duty in excess of 15 per cent on raw materials of carbon less paper — offset paper has also been allowed.
