Deadly Saif spells doom for SP

By Our Sports Reporter

KARACHI, Sept 25: A splendid spell of spin bowling by Saifullah Magsi guided Medicam CC to a 46-run victory over Sindh Police in the 22nd Karachi Gymkhana Tapal Trophy Cricket Festival at the KG Ground on Tuesday.

Saifullah claimed five for 21 with his off-spinners in a decisive period of play during which Sindh Police lost six for wickets for 39 runs after being 46 for one at one stage.

Replying to Medicam CC’s 158 for five, the policemen were all out for 112 in 19.2 overs.

Earlier, wicket-keeper/batsman Amin-ur-Rehman was the mainstay of Medicam CC batting. He struck three fours and one six in scoring 50 off 33 balls.

Ariz Kamal, younger brother of Pakistan batsman Asim Kamal, contributed an invaluable 23 off 16 balls during the unbroken 43-run stand for the sixth-wicket with Rashid Hanif (16).

Later Ariz took two wickets for five runs with his off-spin. Slow left-armer Azam Hussain also captured two wickets.

But for his deadly bowling, Saifullah was declared the Man-of-the-Match.

Summarised scores:

MEDICAM CC 158-5 in 20 overs (Amin-ur-Rehman 50, Ariz Kamal 23 not out; Khalid Rasheed 2-30); SINDH POLICE 112 in 19.2 overs (Mohammad Anwar 28; Saifullah Magsi 5-21, Ariz Kamal 2-5, Azam Hussain 2-13).

Wednesday’s fixture: Dewan Farooq Motors v Bed & Bath CC.
