PESHAWAR, Sept 25: Provincial chief of Jamaat-i-Islami Sirajul Haq has sent to the Speaker his resignation from the NWFP Assembly in protest against President Gen Pervez Musharraf’s plan to get himself re-elected from the present assemblies.
Mr Haq, who was arrested in Islamabad on Monday, was sent to the Adiala jail in Rawalpindi. He sent his resignation to NWFP Assembly Speaker Bakht Jehan Khan on Tuesday.
Party sources said Mr Haq was the first member to resign from the assembly. MPAs belonging to component parties of the All Parties Democratic Movement have handed over their resignations to leaders of their respective parties.
“Sirajul Haq is the fist MPA to send his resignation directly to the speaker of the assembly,” the sources said.
