Doctor in race seeks divine guidance

By Our Staff Reporter

ISLAMABAD, Sept 25: Prof Anwarul Haq, who was removed from the Pakistan Institute of Medical Sciences (Pims) by the government after he declared himself a candidate in the presidential election, says he will seek divine guidance whether to stay in the race or give up.

“My conscience dictates that I should not (run). This election is a farce as, technically, only the assemblies emerging from the general elections have the right to elect the next president,” the professor of pathology told Dawn on Tuesday.

“Still, I will seek divine guidance through Istekhara,” he said.

He said he had sent his nomination papers for signature to a proposer and seconder who belonged to political parties.

He said he would re-submit a petition to the Supreme Court challenging the presidential election after his earlier petition was dismissed by the apex court.
