SAHIWAL, Sept 25: The Anti-Corruption Establishment (ACE) has arrested a local court’s clerk and constable for allegedly helping three prisoners flee from police custody with the help of fake documents. Three accomplices of the arrested officials are still at large.

Nadeem, Latif and Akbar were arrested on April 14 for running a distillery. They filed an application in a court for bail, but the court rejected their application and sent them on a judicial remand.

They prepared a fake ‘robkaar’ with the alleged help of a lawyer’s clerk Nisar Ahmed, court clerk Abid Hussain, reader Muhammad Idrees, naib court constable Muhammad Tufail and stenographer Muhammad Mansha.

The accused officials prepared a fake ‘robkaar’ with the signatures of Civil Judge/Judicial Magistrate Mazhar Farid after getting Rs40,000 from Nadeem, Latif and Akbar and got them released one-and-a-half months ago.

Police registered a case against them and arrested Hussain and Ahmed, while Idrees, Tufail and Mansha were still at large.

BUS LOOTED: Four robbers disguised as passengers looted a bus on Arifwala Road near Chak 153/9-L on Monday night. The bus was going from Lahore to Fort Abbas. The robbers told the driver to take the bus on a link road, held hostage all passengers and deprived them of Rs172,000.

STUDENTS’ PROTEST: Students took out a rally on Kachi-Pacci Road against the alleged misbehaviour of public transport drivers and conductors. They protested outside the office of the traffic police deputy superintendent. Later, they dispersed after the police official assured them that he would look into their problem.
